History

Ceraco ceramic coating GmbH was established in 2012 by Dr. Robert Semerad and Dr. Ralf Nemetschek. Both of them previously were associated with THEVA GmbH, a spin off from the Technical University of Munich (established 1996) and renowned for the development of pioneering processes in the field of High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) thin films.

In 2012 the founders of THEVA decided to set their focus on superconducting flexible wires and in parallel, to split off the wafer coating unit and transfer it into a new company, the ceraco ceramic coating GmbH. Robert Semerad, head of the wafer coating unit at THEVA from 1999 till 2012, was entitled to be the CEO of Ceraco. Both companies still have a very close cooperation and have their headquarters in the same building in Ismaning near Munich, Germany.
